Let's be real, we are all out here looking for the magic bullet.
The one-size-fits-all trick that will get your resume viewed, that will help you ace the interview, and ultimately, that will land you that dream job. Certainly it's out there, because everyone these days promises to have it! It's all over LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, and Tiktok. "Try this simple trick...", "The reason your resume sucks", "The secret to nailing the interview"....
I hate to be the bearer of bad news, lovelies, but that's simply just not real. If someone is promising you a quick fix, especially before getting to know you and your career goals, they are full of beeswax.
You may have noticed that with every service we offer at Soul Spark, it starts with a Discovery Call. This is our opportunity to sit down and explore just exactly what you're looking to get out of your time with us, and ultimately what you want to get out of your career.
The key to this is that it shouldn't be black and white. You shouldn't (and won't) leave that conversation with a perfectly formatted picture of where your career is heading. Truthfully, we very rarely get into much career talk right there at the beginning. Instead, we talk about what life looks like over the next few years. What kinds of things are important to you to live a fulfilling life. What are you not willing to sacrifice to live that life. And the best one yet, how much time do you really want to dedicate to your job search.
We talk about your values, what motivates you, and how you'd like to feel at the end of the day. In all truth, it's these things that will tell you more about your career than some influencer's Top Tactic to a Rich Life.
I had a client recently cancel a session only to text me a few days later to say she's decided to put the career stuff on hold... she was going back to school. I think she may have been worried to tell me, as we have been working for months on building her skills, network, and applying left and right. My response? "That's f***ing FANTASTIC! I'm so proud of you for sitting with it and going with what feels right to you."
Going with feelings is a big part of our practice. We aren't supposed to have it all figured out and we celebrate BIG when we change our path with one that aligns more closely to what lights our heart on fire. Career building is a game of trial and error, changing our minds, and course correcting. We are for it all and are here to help you design your career path for YOU.
So if you recently have found yourself looking for the quick fix, here's some (actually useful) tips:
Breathe and have patience- with yourself and with the process.
Don't get hung up when the path corrects itself- sometimes the universe or higher powers or fate has better foresight than we do.
Listen to your intuition- if you feel in your body a nagging that something isn't quite right... you're right. If you feel in your body that something feels right and centered to you... you're right.
Build a team of support around you who actually care about YOU.
And if you still feel lost in the mix, know that you're not alone. Book your FREE Discovery Call today!
